Old Fort Meade Cavalry Museum

Hello Everyone!

Little did I know when I accepted the appointment of Museum Board President the duties of the position would become so interesting . We had received the McCann art collection, have it placed in the display areas throughout the museum, and ready to promote it as the focal point of the 2020 summer season. The canon wheels are currently being restored for the canon displayed across the street from the museum. We should be able to pick those up in near future.

However, as we have watched the world events and the impact COVID-19 has on society, the museum board has taken action to follow the recommendations currently in effect from the President of the United States and the Governor of South Dakota.

The museum operations are seasonal, May 1 – September 30, providing veterans and visitors the opportunity to learn the history of Fort Meade from establishment in 1878 to the present.

In a sincere effort to protect our veterans, staff, and visitors, the museum WILL NOT OPEN ON MAY 1st as scheduled. Our museum board will continue to monitor the situation and determine a future opening date.

Events that were being planned, are currently on hold until the situation improves.

The positive side is the museum will be operational as soon as possible.

2020 membership is important for the museum to sustain operations and I encourage you to continue your museum membership by completing the application and returning it to the Fort Meade Museum, PO Box 164, Fort Meade, SD 57741.

Thank you for your continued support and caring for the museum.

Please stay safe and most of all STAY HEALTHY!!!
